Marcaine Spinal Solution is used for:

Inducing spinal anesthesia for certain medical or surgical procedures.

Marcaine Spinal Solution is an anesthetic. It works by blocking the generation and conduction of nerve impulses.

Do NOT use Marcaine Spinal Solution if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Marcaine Spinal Solution or other similar medicines (eg, amide-type anesthetics)


• you have severe bleeding, severely low blood pressure or shock, irregular heartbeat, an infection in your bloodstream (eg, septicemia), or an infection at the injection site

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Marcaine Spinal Solution:

Some medical conditions may interact with Marcaine Spinal Solution. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding


• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement


• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, especially sulfites


• if you have heart disease, liver or kidney problems, nervous system problems, pernicious anemia, polio, syphilis, unusual growths (tumors) in the brain or spine, blood or bleeding problems, blood pressure problems, persistent backache, spine problems (eg, arthritis, deformity), a mental illness (eg, psychosis), or a headache right before the procedure

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Marcaine Spinal Solution. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

• Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin, heparin), beta-blockers (eg, atenolol), or digoxin because the risk of side effects, such as abnormal heartbeat or bleeding, may be increased

How to use Marcaine Spinal Solution:

• If you miss a dose of Marcaine Spinal Solution, contact your doctor immediately.

Important safety information:

• Marcaine Spinal Solution may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Marcaine Spinal Solution. Using Marcaine Spinal Solution alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.


• If you are going home before the numbness wears off, protect the treated area from injury until you regain feeling. If you received Marcaine Spinal Solution for a dental procedure, do not chew gum or eat until the feeling comes back. Also be careful not to bite your tongue or the inside of your mouth.


• Some of these products contain sulfites, which can cause allergic reactions in certain individuals (eg, asthma patients). If you have previously had allergic reactions to sulfites, contact your pharmacist to determine if the product you are taking contains sulfites.


• Use Marcaine Spinal Solution with caution in the ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially low blood pressure.


• Marcaine Spinal Solution is not recommended for use in CHILDREN younger than 18 years of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.


• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Marcaine Spinal Solution during pregnancy. Marcaine Spinal Solution is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Marcaine Spinal Solution.

Possible side effects of Marcaine Spinal Solution:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Mild dizziness or drowsiness; nausea; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blurred vision; changes in hearing; chest pain; excitement; headache; inability to control bowels and urine; irregular heartbeat; numbness that lasts for more than a few hours; paralysis; restlessness; ringing in the ears; seizures; severe dizziness or drowsiness; shivering; tremors; urinary retention.

Marezine is used for:

Preventing and treating nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Marezine is an anticholinergic. It works by blocking a chemical messenger in the brain, which helps to reduce or prevent vomiting.

Do NOT use Marezine if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Marezine


• you are taking sodium oxybate (GHB) or anticholinergics (eg, scopolamine)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Marezine:

Some medical conditions may interact with Marezine. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding


• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement


• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

• Sodium oxybate (GHB) because an increase in sleep duration and a decrease in the ability to breathe are likely to occur


• Anticholinergics (eg, scopolamine) because the risk of side effects may be increased

How to use Marezine:

Use Marezine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Marezine may be taken with or without food.


• For prevention of motion sickness, take Marezine at least 30 minutes before activity or travel.


• Use Marezine exactly as directed on the package, unless instructed differently by your doctor. If you are taking Marezine without a prescription, follow any warnings and precautions on the label.


• If you miss a dose of Marezine and are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Marezine.

Important safety information:

• Marezine may cause drowsiness or blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Marezine. Using Marezine alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.


• Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medications that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking Marezine. Marezine will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants.


• Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Marezine.


• Do not exceed the recommended dose or use Marezine longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.


• Marezine is not recommended for use in CHILDREN younger than 6 years of age without checking with your doctor. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.


• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Marezine during pregnancy. It is unknown if Marezine is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Marezine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

What is magnesium sulfate injection?

Magnesium is a naturally occurring mineral. Magnesium is important for many systems in the body especially the muscles and nerves.

Magnesium sulfate injection is used to used to control low blood levels of magnesium (hypomagnesemia). Magnesium sulfate injection is also used for pediatric acute nephritis and to prevent seizures in severe pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, or toxemia of pregnancy.

Magnesium sulfate injection may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about magnesium sulfate injection?

Magnesium sulfate injection should be administered as an injection into a muscle or intravenously by a healthcare provider. It should be administered in a clinical setting where an emergency situation can be handled properly.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using magnesium sulfate injection?

Do not use magnesium sulfate injection without first talking to your doctor if you

Magnesium sulfate injection Dosing Information

Usual Adult Dose for Hypomagnesemia:

1 g IM every 6 hours for 4 doses (mild hypomagnesemia) or
as much as 2 mEq/kg (0.5 mL of a 50% solution) within 4 hours if necessary (more severe hypomagnesemia) or
5 g in 1 L IV fluid over 3 hours.

Administration should be discontinued as soon as the desired clinical effect is achieved and the serum level is normal.

Usual Adult Dose for Ventricular Arrhythmia:

Initial dose: 1 to 3 g IV bolus over 2 to 15 minutes.
Most studies have continued infusions for 24 to 48 hours.
A 1 to 3 g bolus may be repeated in 15 minutes.
Thereafter, 1 to 2 g may be administered by continuous IV infusion.

Usual Adult Dose for Seizure Prophylaxis:

Seizure Prevention in Preeclampsia/Eclampsia:
Initial: IM: 4 to 5 g of a 50% solution every 4 hours as necessary.
IV: 4 g of a 10% to 20% solution, not exceeding 1.5 mL/min of a 10% solution.
Maintenance: IV Infusion: 1 to 2 g/hour. Maximum dose should not exceed 30 to 40 g/day.
